Leading Change Summit 2023

Circles of Change: Inspiring Ethical Spaces in Gender-based Violence Prevention

In May 2023, the Leading Change Summit focused on ideas, research, and emerging practices in visioning, fostering, and sustaining more ethical spaces in gender-based violence prevention.

The Summit brought together 45 guest speakers and over 200 attendees to share promising practices in building ethical spaces.

At the Summit, members of our three organizations were able to connect and start conversations about how our agencies could work together. At the end of the Summit, the group made a commitment to continue these discussions around ending violence through Communities of Practice.

Communities of Practice

To expand their work beyond the provincial level to the local community level, the three Association Leaders initiated Community of Practice circles with representatives from each of their local agency members.

The first Communities of Practice, under the guidance of an Elder and with the help of a facilitator, met in November 2023 and again in February 2024 with four circles from agencies in the North, East, South and West quadrants of Alberta. nce.

Throughout the next year, they will continue to meet and explore how they can work together to improve services and supports for Indigenous women and girls who have experienced domestic and sexual violence.

Community Engagement Sessions

As the next step to furthering anti-colonial relationship-building and improving services, the three provincial organizations are partnering to hold in-person Community Engagement Meetings in 11 communities across Alberta.
